Random Aside

So I'm pretty sure Eric is the only person who reads this, but according to google, other people have stumbled across this site. Here are the 7 google searches that led here:

1. cal bears
2. cal defense sucks
3. cal football
4. cals defense sucks
5. craig stevens cal football
6. nate longshore sucks board
7. tedford oregon st. post game

Now, two things instantly come to mind.
1. Cal sucks. I am still rooting for my bears, but even Alphie has to admit that they suck right now.
2. What does "sucks board" mean, and how did this blog come up as a result for that search??

Smells like dead roses

Regarding our Cal Bears, a real downer, sigh ...
Monte Poole's column pretty much said everything with these interesting lines ..
Through five games, Cal's offense was an effective deodorant for its defense. After games six, seven and eight, it's obvious the deodorant has worn off. The offense no longer puts up 40 per game, and the defense has been exposed.
Which leaves the Emerald Bowl and the Las Vegas Bowl, which host the Pac-10's fourth- and fifth-place teams, there for the taking. If only the Golden Bears can pull it together and climb out of sixth place.
If they can't, well, there's always the Chopper Bowl — assuming Cal's fall has come to an end.

Overrated

For my one faithful reader (I think), you will get mad at this post title. But whatever, Cal Bears stay true to who they are, and lose when we need them to win. Go figure!!

***

It’s nice to go for a Sunday drive, especially with a picnic basket that someone else provides. Sunday drives were the American past time and still is. Lot better than watching the crummy Raiders and 49ers. Those losers.

Speaking of losing. Our Cal Bears lost another heart-breaker. I have not had the drive to watch the video tape. From what I have read from the sports forum on the CCTimes, fans there blamed the loss mostly on coaching, right on Tedford and his staff for doing the same thing over and over again, that is consistently conservative run-run-pass-punt on offensive and fall-back with no rush and allow the QB to pick you apart slowly on defense. This was the same old thing that I commented on during the Oregon St. game that they lost last week. They and also DeSean as well wonder why JTed don’t go for broke and score a ton to compensate for their weak defense. It seems that they are playing it safe and waiting to lose instead of taking a risk and going for broke in an attempt to win. In fact, the LA press quoted Karl Dorral and UCLA players after the game that they knew exactly what Cal was going to do b/c they are predictable and do the same thing over and over again. The kid that intercepted Longshore pass for the winning TD knew exactly that pass was coming. How do you like that – Jeff Tedford being outfoxed and out-coached by Karl Dorral, never thought that would happen. Well, looks like the highly anticipated season is now up in smoke and we can look forward to the Las Vegas Bowl or the Emerald Bowl unfortunately. Damn, what a waste!

Jackson, Brown, Weber Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week

Jackson hauled in 11 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns.

Oct. 1, 2007

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Wide receiver DeSean Jackson of California, cornerback Trey Brown of UCLA and kicker Thomas Weber of Arizona State, have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Jackson, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., provided the big plays on offense in California's 31-24 road win at Oregon. Jackson pulled in 11 receptions for 161 yards (14.6), both career highs, including two touchdown passes covering 25 and 31 yards. In addition to Pac-10 player of the week honors, he was named national Offensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Foundation. It marked the second Pac-10 player of the week honors for Jackson this year, having previously been named for special teams work in California's win against Tennessee.
