Best is best last week

Cal fans,

Jahvid Best was named PAC-10 offensive player of the week for his stellar rushing performance. He beat out Rudy Carpenter of ASU, who had a fantastic game leading ASU over Stanford, for the honors. See link.

Cal Bears is back and ranked 23rd in the nation in this week’s AP polls.

Maryland is next. They should win although they need to travel to Baltimore for a early Sat. day game.

Go Bears!

Lady Bears!

These emails are a bit late:

Hi,
Cal's girls tennis team is visiting China. Cristina's blog of their travels is pleasant reading. For those of us who has been to China, her blog reminds us of the places we visited and the nice times we had there.

Hi Everyone,
You might be surprised to find, as I was, that the Cal Bears girl's tennis team is in the NCAA FINALS, first time in Cal history. They will be playing in the championship match on Tuesday, May 20th. They were seeded #8 and along the way they upset #1 Northwestern and #5 Baylor in the Semis. So Go Bears!
Who are they playing in the Finals, you ask? More surprise. It's none other than the Lady Bruins of UCLA who are ranked 7th who beat USC and Florida in reaching the Finals.
So whatever happened to Stanford, the traditional power-house in women's tennis? Well, they were ranked 4th but lost to Baylor in the quarters, the team that Cal just beat in the Semis today.
So it'll be 8th ranked Cal vs. 7the ranked UCLA tomorrow in the NCAA Finals. It'll be NorCal vs. SoCal. And both teams could not be more evenly matched with 1-1 record against each other in PAC-10 play.
But for Ed and family, they'll be winner no matter who wins b/c Erin will be a UCLA Bruin this fall.
Check out the links for further reading.

Cal QB

Bear fans,

Cal just got a commit from a nice QB for the future. Stole him from right under USC and UCLA noses. From SoCal. Good size. Has 22 college offers!!

Cal just beat Stanfurd to it!

Folks,

Wow, in the hiring of Mike Montgomery to be their new men’s basketball coach, looks like Cal just beat Stanford to it, in the nick of time.

Trent Johnson is leaving Stanford. See link below. Now Stanford has to go searching. Despite making it to the sweet-16 this season, I think Johnson is leaving because Stanford is not going to be very good in the future, with both Lopez twins bolting for the NBA.

If Cal did not hire Monty, then Monty would have end up at Stanford as their new coach for sure. Thankfully Cal made the move before Johnson leaves.

2008 > 2007?

Hi Everyone,
You might find this interesting and useful. It’s a bit long but it’s only 2 things.
1. The Sunday Contra Costa Times had an article written by columnist Eric Gilmore on Jeff Tedford and Cal football. Basically it’s about what Tedford is doing to make corrections to the dismal 2007 season. Really interesting. Now Tedford the psychologist and boot-camp drill sergeant is re-appearing over the Cal football spring drills. He gonna toughen up those 2007 softies for the Fall season. The link to the article is below with some excerpts to the article.
2. Something mentioned in the article caught my eye. It said that Tedford and his staff is using and teaching some of the things in this book titled “Talent is Never Enough” by John Maxwell on his players to promote higher level of performance. It’s a leadership type book and you might look around or read it on your own. I am thinking that if it’s good enough for Tedford to teach his players, it’s good enough for Tedford to teach me and perhaps you. Excerpts from a book reviewer named “Karen” is below. Very interesting and useful. Those points itemized by Karen from the book is right on! Bit like Steve Covey’s teachings. Check out this book on your own.

this blog isn't dead

Cal got whacked by Stanford. Cal men’s seem to always under-perform in basketball. I’d say the AD ought to start looking around for another coach because Braun is not going to take them anywhere. I saw Stanford’s Lopez twins play on TV. They are legit and hope they go deep into the playoffs.
