Monte Poole's column pretty much said everything with these interesting lines ..
Through five games, Cal's offense was an effective deodorant for its defense. After games six, seven and eight, it's obvious the deodorant has worn off. The offense no longer puts up 40 per game, and the defense has been exposed.
Which leaves the Emerald Bowl and the Las Vegas Bowl, which host the Pac-10's fourth- and fifth-place teams, there for the taking. If only the Golden Bears can pull it together and climb out of sixth place. If they can't, well, there's always the Chopper Bowl — assuming Cal's fall has come to an end.
